Facial Waxing Tips To Avoid Irritation

We’ve all had our fair share of waxing horror stories, from going for a Brazilian wax, clearing your peach fuzz to smoothing your armpits - what more if you’re a first time waxing newbie? If you’ve done all of these and survived, then you’re up for the next hair removal session: your facial hairs.

Wait, what? Waxing your face seems like a very odd idea for some, but if you’re up for a little less expensive hair removal challenge, you’re going to want to try it out. Below, we give you first dibs on how to wax your facial hairs minus the pain and irritation that everyone fears. Ready? Scroll below:

Exfoliate, exfoliate.

If you're planning to wax your facial hairs sooner than expected, make sure to exfoliate your skin beforehand.. a few days before your waxing sesh is recommended to avoid tenderness on the day. While keeping your skin moisturised in order to prepare your face -- best to remove excess oil, dirt and dead skin cells while you're at it!

Avoid shaving your facial hairs.

Now that you’ve prepared your skin for your upcoming waxing sesh, avoid trying to shave it. Not only will this cause more irritation, but shaving your face will result in thicker and darker hair. It can also lead to ingrown hairs and infection... and nobody wants that.

Lighten up with the temperature.

The only scary thing about waxing is having to deal with heat since you'll need to melt the wax beans before applying it to your skin. Wax burns can be avoided by doing patch tests to a small area of your skin first. Once you’ve established and gotten comfortable with the right temperature, you can then proceed to waxing your facial hairs as per instruction of your waxing kit. Lightening up with the temperature will help lessen the pain and irritation on your skin, so heat up accordingly.

PRO TIP: Never wax if you're taking certain medications or using topical creams. Once you're under certain antibiotics, your skin will most probably be hyper-sensitive and waxing can be tremendously painful. And if you're using creams that contain Retin-A and Differin, you must talk with your dermatologist first since these can cause skin thinning and can lead to tearing in the long run.

Thinking of waxing your facial hairs soon? Make sure your skin is ready, and you’ll be silky-smooth sooner than you think -- we promise.
