Should Men Try Out Waxing?
Imagining a guy getting his chest waxed? Relax. It’s not nearly as traumatizing.
And if you think only metrosexuals, swimmers, or triathletes would choose to go totally bare down there, think again. Hairless men are silently surging in popularity for all types of guys, from straight to ultra conservative to liberal, according to the New York Times. Men are losing it, from their chest to well... below (and beneath) the belt.
Body hair removal for men is something that’s becoming more acceptable, and male waxing or ‘manscaping’ has grown in popularity over recent years.
Thousands of people search for phrases like 'body waxing for men' and 'waxing for men' each month. Body hair is becoming increasingly personal and arguably, men's grooming practices are on the rise. Men are also continuing to embrace healthy ideas like wellness and self-care. And according to research, more and more men are coming into the salon than ever before!
There are benefits to waxing compared to other forms of hair removal. Removal of male hair by waxing is a long-lasting method but can be painful if the man is not used to it or doing it for the first time.
Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for three to eight weeks; when the hair does grow back, it is soft and thin. When hair is shaved or removed by depilatory cream, the hair is removed at the surface rather than the root. In a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface. With these methods, hair tends to grow back in a rough stubble. Areas that are repeatedly waxed over long periods of time often exhibit a thinning of regrowth, and regrowth that is thinner, softer, and lighter in color. The use of a hair inhibitor will also aid the slow re-growth of hair. When used over a long period of time, this can be considered as an almost permanent method.
No matter how much hair you prefer, your choice of whether or not to wax or which hair to remove is totally up to you. You should determine whether you want to head to a waxing appointment – and if you do, you should be able to do it proudly, too.
"All men should try it once," Research says. "Before, they were like, 'oh, that's for women only,' and now, everybody does it."
Waxing doesn't need to be a pain, nor does it need to be a shame... so don’t hesitate to try it, whether male or female.
